Root Canal

Root canal treatment is an essential restorative treatment for patients who want to save an infected tooth. When the soft tissues that lie inside a tooth become infected or inflamed, the tooth must undergo a root canal before it causes lasting damage.

Although many patients fear that root canals involve significant discomfort, our procedures are actually more comfortable than you might expect. Dr. Zweber and her team go out of their way to give the patient a relaxing and precise procedure.

What Happens During a Root Canal?

During your root canal, Dr. Zweber will first numb the tooth, so you can remain pain-free. You may also choose to use dental sedation to ease any dental anxiety you may be experiencing.

Dr. Zweber will remove the damaged pulp and gently sterilize your tooth to clear out all of the bacteria. When the tooth is clean, she will add a soft rubber compound to protect the tooth. FInally, she will fit the top of the tooth with a custom-made dental crown.

Do I Need a Root Canal Treatment?

A toothache is the most common symptom of a dental infection. Other symptoms may include:

  • Sensitivity to heat or cold.
  • A pimple-like bump on the gums.
  • Discoloration or darkening of a tooth.
  • Pain or sensitivity when biting down.

Not every toothache is the sign of an infection. With a few x-rays, Dr. Zweber can determine if you need a root canal or another type of treatment.

Why Root Canals are Important

A root canal is an excellent way to save an infected tooth from falling out or being extracted. If you avoid treatment, decay will spread, causing further discomfort and tooth loss. Fortunately, root canal therapy can protect your oral health and restore your comfort.
